Most of us are incredibly busy in our lives. Taking the time to actually give to someone else seems like more than we can bear. What is hard to remember, however, is that we usually get a great deal when we give. We get a sense of satisfaction that we've done something to help someone else. We get a feeling of gratitude that we are as fortunate as we are. We gain perspective on our own problems, and can put them in the context of issues that others have.
The list goes on and on. Now, this is not to say that everyone needs to fork over 50% of their salary to a charitable organization; neither is it to say that you should be doing charitable work in the inner city every night. Everything requires a balance, and planning. If you don't have the financial means to give charity, then see if there is a homeless shelter where you can volunteer once a month. If you already volunteer, but don't tend to give money to organizations, then research into some locations that could really used some of your hard earned cash.
There is always a way to give back - and to receive in return. It's just a matter of having the energy to get started. You'll be very glad that you did!
